I arrived into Chicago today where I am shooting over the next three days. I was looking for something to put in my iPhone blog and came across this image from Zion National Park. Must be from about November 2009 - I did a bit of re-processing mostly with Snapseed (structure) and then oversharpened a bit in Filterstorm...Zion can be an amazing location in the winter - actually I have never been there at any other time...

Renaissance Gallery - Pixel Show

 

So nice to see this many iPhone images printed and hanging in one place - The Renaissance Fine Art and Design Gallery in Carmel, Indiana. Kathleen Stevens, who owns and runs the gallery, was an early advocate of iPhone Imagery and has sponsored and participated in three workshops on iPhone/iPad creativity.

Workshops are being planned for next year - three location workshops and possibly one more. The locations are the San Francisco Area, The Palouse/Washington State in August and New York/New Jersey in early June.

The Last-Pixel Show - Carmel Workshop

Just finished the three day workshop in Carmel sponsored by the Renaissance Fine Art and Design Gallery. This workshop was two days of comprehensive iPhone/iPad/Applications work with the third day being dedicated to Ligthroom/Photoshop and making prints. Each student left with a print on fine art Epson or Museo paper printed on an Epson 3800.

Today's post are some the images created by the participants - in alphabetical order.

Look for an upcoming announcement for The Last-Pixel Show 2012 location workshops. Places being considered are California, New York and Washington State (The Palouse). You can 'like' The Last-Pixel Show page on Facebook where you will find information about the workshops as it becomes available.

Erik's Final Image

There is an old saying when doing workshops that if the instructor stays open he or she learns a great deal in return from the participants. This was very true yesterday at The Last-Pixel Show workshop in Carmel, Indiana and today I would like to share the work of Erik Schoonover.

1. Erik took his original image below and made two adjustments. First he used the Symmetry Tab to create the look in the background mountain range. He then selected the sky using the Magic Wand, inverted the mask and created the soft look in the sky using one of Photo Wizard's EFX tabs (see final image above).

2. Next Erik isolated the toy soldier once again using the Magic Wand and dropped the soldier into the image. He then used the clone dialog to move the soldier into the location in the final image at the top of the page.

The new Photo Wizard has quickly become high on The Last-Pixel Show  list of applications being taught at our workshops. Stay tuned for an announcement of several location workshops next year. 

By the way Erik is 12 years old and attended the workshop with his mom, Kari.

So I am driving to Indianapolis for the workshop and  stop for gas - drive back to the freeway and as I am entering the feeder lane I look off to my right and see this amazing cloud structure....Of course have to stop and make the image....Lovely with all the trucks passing closely by....

But well worth the effort in the 32 degree weather.

I am on a long drive from New York to Indiana and noticed I was low on gas. Got off the freeway but the gas station was closed. Low and behold across the street was this old house that simply called out to be photographed. It was late, sun was low but I managed to off a few images. Sometimes I wonder - why....

Resolution, iPad - IPhone

Photo Size Dialog

One of The Last-Pixel Show workshop students was asking for ideas on how to maintain resolution while processing on various applications.

Most applications place the resolution dialog inside their setting panel, and the default resolution setting can be less then full. Nothing is more frustrating then to finish working on an image and find that one of you applications lowered the resolution.

There are many ways to avoid this but for me it is an application called Photo Size. Photo Size is by Danny Goodman and is free...Try this workflow:

1. First of all check the resolution of the application and make sure it is set to high (some call it original). Also check your image before doing any processing.

2, After working on an image open Photo Size (pictured above) and navigate to your Camera Roll.

3. Find your image and bring it into Photo Size - Photo Size shows you the resolution....should match or be very close to the original before processing.Some application will make slight changes in the resolution but that is for another tutorial.

Below find the resolution settings for Filterstorm:

1. When ready to save your image tap the icon that looks like a box with an arrow - 5th down in the middle:

2. Tap the 'photo library' icon:

3/ Make sure you are set to 'max size' and highest 'jpeg quailty'. Also turn on the 'confirm before export' icon to ensure nothing has changed from the last time you used the application. Not sure why the XMP is not on - I usually keep this on so the sidecar document travels with the image. Then hit send photos. If this dialog does not appear hit cancel - go to 'SETTINGS' and turn on the 'confirm before export' icon.

Below find the resolution settings for Artista Haiku:

1. With your image open tap the second icon in from the left.

2. Tap the 'setings icon':

3.  Set your resolution to high......
